new grad advice!!
Hi!
I am a new graduate and have had a few interviews this past week. I interviewed with a med/surg unit that I really like. I did my practicum on this unit and enjoy the type of patients, staff, and the manager seems great. I currently work as a CNA on a labor and delivery unit. I interviewed with my manager also this week for an RN job. I am not sure which one to take if they are both offered. I enjoy both types of patients. I am afraid I will not get the opportunity again for the labor and delivery floor. I *think* I eventually want to do the NICU, so L & D would be a nice stepping stone to get there, but I also know that general med/surg experience is great, especially for a new grad. If I went for the med/surg job, I am assuming I would have to go to peds, PICU, and then to NICU...whereas working in L & D I could transfer after a few years when a spot came available. HELP! I don't know what I am supposed to choose...like I said, I enjoy both types of patients I am just not sure which to pick and what would be best for a new grad. I am comfortable on L & D and would like being involved in such a specialty area, but I realize that med/surg experience is important. Any suggestions??
