What type of current should be used make a metal detector

i'm doing this as a part of my project . the choke act as an inductor & a capacitor is also connected to the inductor so that the L.C be in resonance. if an alarm is connected it will detect metal using the principal of electromagnetic induction . so which current is more safe ? if D.C which type of battery should i use?
