One thing we hate about being a nursing student is the rigid schedule. That’s why we are being labeled in the whole school population as the ULTIMATE KJs!
• We go to school even during Sundays for a lecture, retdems or an EXAM • On call duties or group work instead of enjoying the university days. • During SABADO NIGHTS, your non-nursing friends would try to reach ur landline/mobile phone, while your in the hospital re-assessing your patient’s condition and checking new doctor’s order • Your non-nursing friend called you for some RED HORSE TRIP at the club, but you declined coz you’d rather drink cups of coffee just to keep awake until 3AM to finish your care plans • Can’t spend a ‘girltalk’ with your fellow doormates coz ur busy memorizing the drug of choice and its drug action for a certain disease condition. • Can’t go out with your non-nursing BF/GFs on a date because you would rather pay a home visit with your patients. • The rest of the departments were already having their sem-break while the Nursing Program is still busy for the final exam. • Everyone is trying to catch the summer on beaches while you’re trying to hide the heat of the sun (with your umbrella) during CHN rotation. • Can’t join university games during founder’s day coz you would rather spend those “USELESS” times in bed making up for your 8-hr complete sleep. • Can’t enjoy the senior’s week coz your busy completing your 5-5-5 scrubs so that you could graduate on MARCH. • ETC! ETC! ETC! Truly sometimes, we are really KJs..HEHEHE! But hey, we allowed ourselves to be in this profession in the first place. It’s a way to train us. Soon, most of us, if not all, will be professional nurses, working in different hospital institutions all over the globe; we will be subjected to follow rules and policies. Our time will not be our own. We will experience constant changes, one of which is the shifting schedules. It will come to a point where we can’t prioritize our personal concerns because we are bound to our duty, the patient’s need our “Tender. Loving Care”. Maybe it’s still vague to imagine such scenario. But sooner or later, we will find it for ourselves. Hmm…, maybe we're not that KJ after all..Agree?! |

Good nursing students don't always make the best nurses. This is why some nursing schools insist on personal interviews as part of the application process
